I find Francesca Woodman’s images really quite haunting, maybe its the run down spaces which she merges her own body with, or maybe its that someone so young could produce such mature and tormented images. She took her first self portrait aged 13 and committed suicide aged 22. She left behind a vast body of simply amazing images, with a strong stylistic and thematic approach throughout. She deals with reinterpretations of the female form and a sort of self narrative that’s difficult to pinpoint, kinda like a less literal take on Cindy Sherman’s film stills series.

I’d like to apologize in advance if this is far too random.
Your page popped up in a search I was doing, and I thought I might try and write to you… My name is Abigail (Abby) Woodman, and I’ve been trying to learn more about my late cousin (My grandfather’s niece) Francesca… Not only her work, but how she’s affected people, her legacy, so to speak. Is there anything you could share with me? Any specific work of hers that drew you in, how did you become interested in her? What affects you most? Have you found out anything interesting about her life? Really, any thoughts you have at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time!
