Anna Shteynshleyger ‘Seberia’ series presents the viewer with scenes from a country that has had many troubles and I can’t help but feel that some of this political resonance creeps into her landscapes, whether she intended it to or not. I think her work reflects the current trend in contemporary deadpan photography, and personally I think she could have approached her subject matter in a slightly more interesting way, however by using a deadpan aesthetic she doesn’t let photographic style interfere with what she is trying to communicate in the images themselves.
